Just red paint, but it contained many layers and shades piled deep and high. Ever since, I have been attracted, and intimidated, in equal measures by this sensual, ferocious, complex shade.

The piece is called Ruaidhrí, which means the red king in Gaelic.

It symbolises passion, rage, majesty, and honour.

Áine Dunleavy is an Irish artist living in Stratford Upon Avon. She has been painting and sharing her work since 2002. She loves to create large statement pieces that own the space they live in. With every piece she tries to celebrate colour, either in its rawest form or through a combination of supporting tones.

She takes her inspiration from the environment around her. Greens from nature, gentle blues and pinks from the skies and intense neon's from space and the cosmos.
